Ithaca is Gorges!

That's what they say, you know! First, just up the road from Ithaca is Taughannock Falls - taller than Niagara Falls! (although not quite as big...)
Next, we wandered onto the campus of Ivy League Cornell University. This seems like a harmless bridge, right?
If you take a look over the edge, you see one of the two on-campus 5o+ foot deep gorges. Fun, huh?
That's it for now - more when we get back!

Oxford Signage

As you may know, one of the reasons for my acquisition of a camera phone was to record for posterity a number of the totally bizarre things I see around Ohio. In this first installment, we will see a variety of official signs used around Oxford and Miami.

The sign that started it all. When Western drive was "downsized" to one-way, the construction workers elected to put up this official sign. Purple spray paint on a piece of particle board told us all to turn left:
Next is another typical use of the spray-paint-on-particle-board sign. This one was actually deemed so well-made that it was reused in at least one other location on campus:
Next is the double-whammy. Although they are both dark and hard to read, this Oxford construction company elected to inform the public uptown that this particular alley was closed. It is not too readable on this picture, but helpfully taped to this garbage can is a piece of printer paper which says "Alley Closed."
In case you missed the aforementioned garbage can, helpfully hung on the chain-link fence blocking the alley is another sign, although also unreadable in this picture, that says "alley closed" - also made with the materials of choice - spray paint and particle board.
Pretty classy!

The Monsters are Back!

Here they come!

The hall banner in all of its glory:

Jamie and a few of her RA's are hanging out at check-in:

As they begin to arrive in droves, people park all over - including the front lawn (and don't get tickets...)

Here the Monsters assemble for their welcoming to Miami:

Here Jamie and her RA's introduce themselves to the new kids:

They're baaaaaaack....

Reds vs. Brewers!

So, we headed out to our first Reds game of the season, only for the game to be rain delayed for about 2 1/2 hours! However, once the rain subsided they kicked us out of the upper decks because so many people had left. That move meant seats in the 5th row from the 3rd base line for our cheap-o tickets!

What a view! See that spot up by the lights? That's where we usually sit...

#3 Ken Griffey, Jr.

#44 Adam Dunn:

We needed to keep looking for foul balls. Not for this picture, though!

A Taste of D.C.

Here are a few early pics to tickle your fancy...

Hello from the nation's Capital (and Capitol)!

Oh, and don't forget the best part - I had to find it and on day one of our explorations I did!

Locked in a glass case in the basement gift shop of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum was the Enterprise!

Many more pictures soon to come...
